The City of Philadelphia will be closing the South Street Bridge as well as the two South Street exits from the Schuylkill Expressway for a period of approximately two years. This major reconstruction may cause inconvenience in reaching West Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. We suggest you begin to follow the directions provided here to reach Perelman Quadrangle or visit the South Street Bridge page to plan your travel to the university. Please note the new traffic pattern by the medical complex.

Directions by car

From the Northeast via the New Jersey Turnpike South

Use Exit 4. Bear right out of the toll following signs to Philadelphia and Ben Franklin Bridge. After crossing the bridge take I-676 West, to I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Follow I-76 East and take Exit 346B to University Avenue. Veer right and go under the underpass making a right onto Civic Center Boulevard. At the first traffic light, turn right on to Health Sciences Drive. Turn left onto Convention Avenue and then take a right onto Civic Center Blvd. At the next light, make a left onto Spruce Street. Go one block and Irvine Auditorium followed by Houston Hall are on the right.

From the West via the Pennsylvania Turnpike

On the PA turnpike, use Exit 326, the Valley Forge Interchange. Take I-76 East and take Exit 346B to University Avenue. Veer right and go under the underpass making a right onto Civic Center Boulevard. At the first traffic light, turn right on to Health Sciences Drive. Turn left onto Convention Avenue and then take a right onto Civic Center Blvd. At the next light, make a left onto Spruce Street. Go one block and Irvine Auditorium followed by Houston Hall are on the right.

From the North via I-95 South

Use the I-676/Center City Philadelphia Exit. Follow signs to I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway. Take I-676 West until I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Follow I-76 East and take Exit 346B to University Avenue. Veer right and go under the underpass making a right onto Civic Center Boulevard. At the first traffic light, turn right on to Health Sciences Drive. Turn left onto Convention Avenue and then take a right onto Civic Center Blvd. At the next light, make a left onto Spruce Street. Go one block and Irvine Auditorium followed by Houston Hall are on the right.

From the South via I-95 North

Just past the Philadelphia International Airport, take Exit # 13 (Valley Forge). Cross the Platt bridge and at the base make a left to I 76 (Schkull (sp) Expressway). Follow the expressway, toward Valley Forge exiting at Exit # 346B (Grays Ferry Avenue). Proceed straight, crossing the Grays Ferry drawbridge. Staying in the right lane and passing under the overpass, make a right on Civic Center Blvd. At the first traffic light, turn right on to Health Sciences Drive. Turn left onto Convention Avenue and then take a right onto Civic Center Blvd. At the next light, make a left onto Spruce Street. Go one block and Irvine Auditorium followed by Houston Hall are on the right.
